Dr. Tim Hilderman, a medical officer of health with Manitoba Health, said Thursday the child has been released from hospital and is at home doing well.

There are no reported human cases at this time.

We have a health alert out of Scioto County where the West Nile Virus has been found in some mosquitoes in the Portsmouth area.

One Kentucky health department has announced it has found mosquitoes with West Nile virus.

The virus is transmitted to humans through mosquitoes, which acquire the virus by feeding on infected birds.

Fairfax County health officials said they've seen a "large increase" in mosquitoes carrying the virus.

However, the season isn't over yet, and the number of "vector" mosquitoes is increasing as the summer moves on, he said.

Three mosquito pools have tested positive for the West Nile virus in Peel Region, a spokesperson for Peel Public Health confirms.

In Maryland, there were five reported cases of West Nile a year ago, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Severe cases can lead to more serious illnesses, such as encephalitis and paralysis, and in some cases it can be fatal.

People infected with West Nile virus may show no or very mild symptoms.

Benjamin Schwartz, director of epidemiology and population health for Fairfax County, said that with the high levels [of the virus] in mosquitoes and the recent rains leading to even more mosquitoes, it is important for residents to take precautions for themselves and their families.

You should also take steps to reduce standing water where mosquitoes breed. Eight out of 10 people will never experience any symptoms. About 20% of people develop fever, headache, vomiting or a rash.
