Family members identified the victim as Nasim Ghanadan, a realtor at Pacific Union in Danville, California.

Fire authorities were called at 12:28 local time (19:28 GMT) after the small plane hit a parked red auto, while its owner was in a shop.

The crash occurred in the parking lot of a shopping complex that includes Staples, a CVS drug store and a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant.

The twin-engine Cessna plane crashed in Santa Ana, and had been bound to John Wayne Airport in Orange County, said Capt.

The plane was heading to the airport southeast of Los Angeles when it came down and struck an unoccupied parked auto in the lot of a Staples store and a CVS pharmacy.

The twin-engine aircraft declared an emergency on Sunday afternoon before crashing about a mile from John Wayne Airport in California. The plane struck a parked vehicle but no one on the ground was injured, he said.

FAA records show that the plane was registered to a company based in San Francisco and had flown from the nearby suburb of Concord, according to The Orange County Register.

The agency will investigate and the National Transportation Safety Board will determine the cause of the accident, the FAA said in a tweet. A husband and wife, who survived, were pulled from the burning aircraft by an off-duty firefighter from Avalon.
