Brad Pitt on Wednesday rebutted claims that he had failed to support his children and accused his estranged wife Angelina Jolie of trying to manipulate the media in their long drawn-out divorce. The document added that he loaned Ms Jolie Pitt $8 million to buy her current home, and has paid over $1.3 million in bills for the benefit of Ms Jolie Pitt and their six children.

Mr Pitt's lawyers said in the two-page document filed in Los Angeles Superior Court that he "adamantly disputes the contention that he has not paid significant child support".

In turn, Jolie's lawyer Samantha Bley DeJean responded by saying that her filing "was both legally appropriate and factually accurate in all respects" and that "what has been filed by Brad's side today is a blatant attempt to obfuscate the truth and distract from the fact that he has not fully met his legal obligations to support the children".

The famous pair split and filed for divorce in 2016, and on Tuesday her lawyer claimed that he had paid "no meaningful child support" for their children since then and meant to file for a 'retroactive child support order'.

Pitt's attorneys said in documents they filed for him that Jolie Pitt's lawyers have made no mention that she had any problems with the amounts he has given her for the children.

Pitt's attorneys said that Jolie's claims were "a thinly-veiled effort to manipulate media coverage".

The two filings were rare unsealed public documents in the case that gave a glimpse into the slow-moving divorce of the 54-year-old actor Pitt and the 43-year-old actress and director Jolie Pitt.

The "Maleficent" actress said on Tuesday that she wanted to expedite the divorce and return to single status by the end of 2018.

Pitt and Jolie were married for two years and enjoyed a 10-year romance that had made the pair one of Hollywood's most glamorous couples.

Ms Jolie Pitt's filing requested a case management hearing to discuss the issues of child support and finalising the divorce soon.

Final custody arrangements have yet to be agreed.
