Carragher: New Arsenal boss Emery compared to Rafa Benitez

Arsenal's Head of High-Performance Darren Burgess has revealed what head coach Unai Emery most wanted to change about the club (via Fox Sports).

It's obvious that their defence held them back from greater success last season, and it's been a problem which has been ongoing for some time.

The Portuguese coach has clearly been disappointed by the club's close-season spending and has rued the fact that, like other top-flight clubs, many of his squad have had minimal preparation having had time off to recover from the World Cup.

Lehmann also gave a surprising compliment to Spurs by comparing them to the youthful Arsenal sides that he was a part of between 2003 and 2008.

BBC journalist David Ornstein has played down reports suggesting Arsenal have launched a late £89.9m bid to sign Barcelona attacker Ousmane Dembele.

That gutsy display against the eventual bronze medalists is thought to have gained manager Akira Nishino more favour in his homeland, but the Japan FA would still prefer to bring in Wenger. It appears they right now don't know how to win trophies.

Lehmann also said Arsenal's new goalkeeper Bernd Leno still has a lot to prove as he tries to topple Petr Cech as the Gunners' No. 1. He must take more risks and continue his development. He fails to do so?

But how have Arsenal been preparing for the new season?

The former Germany global also questioned Liverpool's decision to spend £65 million on Alisson, saying the Brazil goalkeeper hasn't proven that he's among the world's best. He's 25 now and made 100 professional appearances so far, 50 of them coming for Roma last season. He was a true fan favourite at Highbury (and subsequently when they shifted grounds, the Emirates), being crowned PFA Player of the Year.
