Celtic make improved McGinn bid to rival Villa

Hibernian's John Mc Ginn could be on his way to England

Hibernian's John Mc Ginn could be on his way to England

"I think Celtic have matched the offer but I think Villa are in the driving position at the minute", the Hibernian manager was quoted as saying by the BBC.

McGinn came through the ranks at St Mirren before going on to join Hibs in 2015 and has insisted that he can't wait for his debut.

He played a key part in Hibs' promotion to the Scottish Premiership back in 2016/17 having won the Scottish Cup the year before.

Aston Villa are in the "driving position" to sign John McGinn despite renewed interest from Celtic, according to Neil Lennon.

But it seems Aston Villa are set to beat them to the post for the Scotland global over the next 24 hours. He has blossomed. I think Hibs has been very good for him and John has been very good for Hibs.

"I don't know if John's head has been turned by Aston Villa, I have not spoken to him on it yet, but as far as I'm aware they are certainly in a really strong position in terms of getting his services".

"I think John met him for dinner last night (Tuesday) and he was very impressed with what Steve had to say".

McGinn becomes Steve Bruce's fourth signing of the summer and the second on a permanent contract after goalkeeper Orjan Nyland checked in.

While Atletico Madrid keeper Andre Moreira and Manchester Untied defender also arrived at Villa Park on loan deals.

McGinn's arrival comes hours after Villa rejected a £25million bid from Tottenham for midfielder Jack Grealish.
