Oosthuizen, 35, finished second at the PGA Championship previous year.

The magazine says on its website that PGA staff members discovered their systems had been compromised when attempts to access files generated a message that the network had been penetrated and that any attempt to break the encryption could cause files to be lost. "All files on each host in the network have been encrypted with a strong algorythm [sic]".

Just before the start of the recent Professional Golf Association [PGA] Championship at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, bad news seemed to be looming over the event. They also provided a Bitcoin wallet number, but no specific ransom amount was asked for. Since Bitcoin wallets are not particularly linked to a person or entity, it can not be used to identify suspects.

According to Golfweek, the PGA of America's computer servers have been hacked, locking files for numerous PGA banners, logos and signage.

An anonymous source for the PGA told Golfweek that the organization has no plans to meet the hackers' demands. IT experts are frantically trying to resolve the situation and ensure that the tournament remains unaffected.
