Secret recording reveals why Rosenstein hasn’t been impeached – and when he will be

Republican chairman of the House Intelligence Committee tells Sean Hannity that his investigators are getting "closer and closer" to having all the information they need from the Department of Justice.

The audio was first released Wednesday night on MSNBC's "The Rachel Maddow Show". Nunes appeared to say at the meeting that it was important the GOP maintain its control in Congress after the November elections so that they can continue to check that investigation.

"If Sessions won't un-recuse and Mueller won't clear the president, we're the only ones, which is really the danger", he said on the recording.

"So if we actually vote to impeach, OK, what that does is that triggers the Senate then has to take it up", he said, explaining that it could take away from other priorities of Congress. Nunes announced a year ago that he would step aside from his own committee's investigation into Russian interference after the House Ethics Committee said it was examining allegations that he "may have made unauthorized disclosures of classified information".

"These are sensible ideas, I'm glad Chairman Nunes talked about them", Jack Langer, a spokesman for Nunes, said in a statement to The Hill.

House Democrats indeed seized on the "secret tape".

It apparently isn't a consideration among him and his colleagues that their role in Congress is not to protect the president but to be a check on his power. "The duty of Congress is to be a check and balance on the Executive Branch, and to pursue the facts wherever they may lead".

Brooke Singman is a Politics Reporter for Fox News. "Devin Nunes should resign for perverting the oath he took".

He went on to say he supports Rosenstein's impeachment but "the question is the timing of it right before the election". "It's a matter of, it's a matter of timing", he added.

He continued: "Do you want them to drop everything and not confirm the Supreme Court justice, the new Supreme Court justice?"

"Like sometimes you love the president's tweets, sometimes we cringe on the president's tweets", he said, attempting to discredit Mueller's purported examination of Trump's inflammatory posts as part of his inquiry into possible obstruction of justice. Nunes said at a recent fundraiser that Republicans need to keep control of the House to protect President Donald Trump from the Russian Federation investigation, according to an audio recording released today.
