9 - With the exception of handing Kepa Arrizabalaga a debut in goal, Sarri played it safe with his first league line-up by opting for experienced heads to do his high-press bidding.

Jorginho is the leader in this system that he knows better than any of his team-mates following his time playing under Sarri at Napoli.

While City and Liverpool are the favourites to finish top of the pile, Chelsea will fancy their chances as they adjust to a new style of play under Sarri.

But the Spaniard just looked a yard off pace from the start with sloppy passing and some poor first touches.

Chelsea started the first-half with the same languid approach that had optimised their pre-season, lacking any pace and incisiveness on the turn, instead reverting to an impassive and disjointed accumulation of short five-yard balls and careless clearances.

And that was when Chelsea grew into the game, with the Italian getting a feel of the opposition and exposing their weaknesses with the same quick short passes which he did so well at Napoli.

The first goal of the Sarri era came after 33 minutes from the unexpected source of Kante, who scored for the first time in 11 months with his third league goal for the club.

He was also involved in the move to win the penalty, as Pedro started the attack, allowing Jorginho to feed it into Ross Barkley with a perfectly-weighted pass and the England worldwide flicked it into Marcos Alonso's path to earn the penalty.

There were occasional signs of hesitancy in defence early on that a stronger team than Huddersfield might have exploited, but to criticise Chelsea beyond that would be harsh.

But it's either Morata or Olivier Giroud after Chelsea failed to sign a striker in the summer transfer window.

In a ruthless display of finishing Chelsea also netted with their second effort, new boy Jorginho coolly converting a penalty on the stroke of half-time after Marcos Alonso was felled inside the box.

MF Ruben Loftus-Cheek, 6 - Replaced Barkley in the 68th minute and brought a more physical presence to Chelsea's midfield. You can't switch on against a top-quality team like Chelsea.

And even when the Blues' attacks worked their way through, Kongolo was there to provide some brilliant last-ditch tackles to keep the pressure off Ben Hamer in the Huddersfield goal.

Huddersfield fans will have felt the half-time score was harsh, but Chelsea set about extending their lead after the restart. But things do look bright at the back for the Terriers.
