Daniel Murphy, a three-time All-Star and notorious Cub killer, was acquired Tuesday by the Cubs in a waiver trade from the Nationals, adding a left-handed bat to a struggling lineup for the stretch run.

According to The Washington Post, Murphy, Adams and Bryce Harper were all claimed by teams.

WIthin minutes, the Cardinals announced they had claimed Matt Adams off waivers from Washington, bringing him back to the city where he spent most of his major league career. Previous year he hits.318 with a homer and two RBI in five NLDS games against Chicago with Washington, but it's 2015 that Murphy did the most damage. He played with the Cardinals from 2012 to May 2017 before being traded to the Atlanta Braves. Adams is batting.257 with 18 HR and 48 RBI in 94 games with the Nationals this season. He went on the disabled list July 31 for a right shoulder strain and missed 19 games. Martínez has a 6-6 record with a 3.41 ERA in 18 starts this season, striking out 98 batters in 100.1 innings. Infielder Patrick Wisdom was optioned to Memphis (AAA) following Monday night's game. Adams is in transit, though it is unclear when he will join the club.

Wisdom, 26, goes back to the minors, where he played 747 career games before getting his first major league call-up August 11.
