Collusion New Texts Suggest FBI Officials Had Media Leak Strategy During Trump Russia Probe

A member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee says newly released text messages between FBI employees suggests that there has been a "systemic culture of media leaking by high-ranking officials at the FBI and DOJ related to ongoing investigations" meant to damage Donald Trump. "In the text, Strzok warns Page two articles are coming out, one which is "worse" than the other about Lisa's "namesake".' Strzok added: "Well done, Page, '" according to Meadows" letter.

In a new letter to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., raised "grave concerns" about an "apparent systemic culture of media leaking" among high-level Federal Bureau of Investigation and Justice Department officials to release information damaging to Trump.

Meadows also noted that Andrew Weissmann, who now works on special counsel Robert Mueller's team, had met with reporters from the Associated Press in that same month for a discussion about former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

The claim from Meadows is debatable; Strzok's attorney said his client's reference to a "media leak strategy" was an effort to stem unauthorised disclosures of information.

April 12, 2017: Peter Strzok congratulates Lisa Page on a job well done while referring to two derogatory articles about Carter Page.

The latest Strzok/Page messages "should lead a reasonable person to question whether there was a honest desire to investigate wrongdoing or to place derogatory information in the media to justify a continued probe", Meadows told Rosenstein.

"Republicans in Congress repeatedly cherry-pick, mischaracterize, and then leak bits and pieces of documents to fabricate conspiracy theories to protect President Trump, and this is just the latest example", they wrote.

And President Donald Trump echoed Dershowitz's comments on the leaking in a pair of tweets Tuesday night."You know who's at fault for this more than anyone else, Comey, because he leaked information and laundered it through a professor at Columbia Law School".

"The term "media leak strategy" in Mr. Strzok's text refers to a Department-wide initiative to detect and stop leaks to the media".
