Tesla shares slip as analyst calls company "uninvestable"

On Wednesday, Obsidian Black and Metallic Silver will disappear from the online configurators for the Model S, Model X, and Model 3 EVs.

The colors being scrapped by Musk. But don't worry, if you really want them, they can be made available as a special request, just as long as you're willing to pony up a bit more than their current $1,500 price tags.

This streamlining could be because Musk told employees on Friday that Tesla's about to have the most awesome quarter in history.

Nomura Instinet said Tesla remains "positioned to deliver unprecedented revenue growth" because its control of the supply chain and battery manufacturing technology places it ahead of other companies developing electric cars.

The "Obsidian Black" color which is being shelved. Now it seems that in order to ramp up production of the popular Model 3, only a limited number of colors will be offered to customers.

It said: "We are about to have the most unbelievable quarter in our history, building and delivering more than twice as many cars as we did last quarter".

Tesla shares have plunged by about a quarter since August 7, when Mr Musk, Tesla's founder and chief executive, unveiled a plan, ultimately aborted, to take the company private at $420 per share.

Some senior employees have recently jumped ship too, including head of HR Gabrielle Toledano.

In a tweet, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the company's models will now be available in five primary colors.

A Tesla Spokesperson told Business Insider: "We occasionally adjust pricing and available options to best reflect the value of our products and to streamline our manufacturing operations". After lowering the cost of its dual-motor vehicle just one month ago, Tesla has raised the retail price of its all-wheel-drive auto back from $54,000 to $55,000, representing a 20 percent increase from its single-motor Model 3 equipped with a long-range battery.
