Marcus Rashford 'may have to quit Man United to fulfill potential'

Rashford, who is on a £55,000-a-week contract (Daily Mirror), has found it hard to break into United's team as an out and out forward over the past two seasons, and a move to Everton would certainly raise eye brows.

Carragher said: 'I don't see Rashford ever displacing Lukaku so long as he is there, but Lukaku was at Chelsea and he had to come away from there and go to Everton. Will he be an England regular or be Manchester United's real centre-forward where you know, when the team is picked every week, that he is in it.

"He (Lukaku) ended up top scorer and then got his move to Manchester United".

The 20-year-old scored the winning goal for England against Switzerland on Tuesday night, which followed up the goal he scored in the 2-1 defeat by Spain last Saturday.

Asked if he would have to leave United to fulfil his potential, Carragher said: 'I think so.

"It gets to the stage where you want to play every week".

"I felt at the World Cup, Sterling was virtually playing as a centre-forward", he added.

'And possibly Everton is the sort of club, just below the top six, similar to what Lukaku did, when you know you're going to play every week.

'You know if you have a couple of games where you don't score you're still going to play the next week. He might be at 23 or 24.

"Rashford may have to move away to come back to one of the top teams".

"Last season, he played poorly against Brighton, Mourinho had a pop at him and Lukaku went straight back in the next game". He looks like one of the best strikers in the world.

Rashford has yet to find the mark at club level this season, having turned out three times for United in the league. That's the problem you're always going to have'.
