Synchronoss Technologies, Inc., an IoT and messaging provider, has united with Japan-based telecom carrier SoftBank Corp. and blockchain technology provider TBCASoft Inc. on a cross-carrier payment service (CCPS) that will use TBCASoft's blockchain platform and the Rich Communication Services (RCS) global messaging standard.

He further stated that the SoftBank is "at the forefront in bringing to market new cutting edge technology". When implemented, it will facilitate mobile payment services amongst global telecommunication carriers and is expected to replace the traditional SMS text messaging system with a richer pool of features, such as sending multimedia content, documents and voices calls via carrier networks instead of mobile apps. They have successfully completed the PoC that will enable users to make a range of in-store, mobile and digital purchases directly from their device.

The payments platform integrates RCS technology as well as blockchain for processing the payments, with the proof of concept already hailed a success by the firms involved.

The three companies recently completed a mobile payments service PoC based on RCS and CCPS.

The blockchain expertise in the partnership comes from TBCASoft. It is utilized for worldwide mobile payment services across global telecommunications carriers.

SoftBank and TBCASoft are members of the the Carrier Blockchain Study Group (CBSG) Consortium, which aims to give telecom members and their user different services such as secured global digital payments, personal authentication, IoT applications, clearing and settlement and other services using blockchain technology. Sychronoss Technologies is an global creator of cloud, digital, IoT, and messaging products. Users will be able to conveniently transfer funds held within their mobile wallets from one carrier to another in a P2P fashion.

SoftBank further explained that worldwide purchases made can be done directly through an RCS-based messaging app, similar to a text message or email.

TBCASoft has been working with SoftBank, under the Carrier Blockchain Study Group (CBSG) Consortium, to deliver a cross-carrier blockchain platform called CCPS (Cross-Carrier Payment Service), which is created to support global mobile payment services among operators.

Takeshi Fukuizumi, the vice president of Softbank has opined that the upcoming service will enable the merchants to function "at a scale that was previously only available to big brands".

Meanwhile, Sychronoss' CEO was optimistic that RCS messaging will be the new backbone of the marketplace for merchants and brands.
