Spurs without Alli and Lloris for Liverpool clash

Lloris was handed his punishment at Westminster magistrates’ court yesterday

The Tottenham and France goalkeeper attended a hearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday after he was stopped by police on August 24.

Lloris admitted being more than twice above the drink-drive limit of 35 micrograms when he was stopped by police in central London last month.

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has been fined 50,000 pounds (65,000 U.S. dollars) and banned from driving for 20 months after pleading to driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Mauricio Pochettino says Hugo Lloris will retain the club captaincy at Tottenham but warned the French World Cup victor he had been lucky to escape his drink-driving escapades with only a criminal conviction and a hefty fine. It's a massive lesson to everyone'.

"But I think everyone can make a mistake".

"He already knew in the moment that it was a big mistake".

He said a taxi which had booked cancelled so Lloris made "the first of a number of unwise decisions" and chose to drive home. We are not God and cannot judge people. "Now, because he is clever, he learns and he is going to move on".

Tottenham are without senior pair Dele Alli and Hugo Lloris at the weekend for the clash with Liverpool, but it could be the absence of the latter that proves more important.

"He's the first that told me: 'Gaffer it's a massive mistake and I need to pay, like a man'". He understands that it was a mistake.

"Because when we saw in the past that different clubs didn't allow [him] to go to play in this tournament".

Midfielder Moussa Sissoko will be another absentee for the Wembley meeting with Liverpool but, while Harry Winks could be in contention to start, his manager said the Englishman's ankle condition is "chronic". I am not disappointed with him.

"If not, we're not going to take a risk because he missed a lot of games and we have ahead of lot of games to play".
