Fujikawa 27 from Honolulu said he had been pondering going public for some time

The 27-year-old did so in a lengthy Instagram post on Tuesday, saying his timing was tied to World Suicide Prevention Day. I don't expect everyone to understand or accept me.

He said that the reaction has been positive since coming out this week.

In his post, Fujikawa addresses the darker times battling with mental health.

"So... I'm gay", Fujikawa wrote.

The golfer, whose professional career started in 2006 when he became the youngest golfer ever to qualify for the US Open, said he didn't expect everyone to accept his sexuality, but he asked that people respected his beliefs and identity. "So long as those issues are still occurring, I will proceed to create my most productive to lift more consciousness to this relate and to fight for equality". The next year, he qualified at the Sony Open, becoming the youngest player in 50 years to make the weekend at a PGA Tour event. But I remember how much other's stories have helped me in my darkest times to have hope.

"I'm so glad that I came out". I became repeatedly unnerved of what others would possess/say. "I've been trying to withhold from using social media a bit recently but today is #worldmentalhealthday so I felt the need to post something".

He continued: "I've been back and forth for a while about opening up about my sexuality. I can finally be the best version of me". "Now I'm standing up for myself and the remainder of the LGBTQ community in hopes of being an inspiration and making a distinction in somebody's existence". Whether the LGBTQ is what you support or not, we must liberate and encourage each other to be our best selves, whatever that may be. I just want to spread love and acceptance to others who are in a similar situation. He batted around the mini-tours for the next decade, and resurfaced to the general public when he won the Hawaii State Open this past December. If anyone out there is struggling, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. "Let's create our segment to make this world the next relate". YOU ARE LOVED AND YOU ARE ENOUGH.AS IS, EXACTLY AS YOU ARE!❤️ I can't wait for the day we all can live without feeling like we're different and excluded. "Thanks, [Fujikawa], for reminding us that our love of the game unites us all". We are all human and equal in the end. At 16, he went pro. "(Thank you) to everyone who has supported me and helped me to keep going when I was at my lowest.
