The Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers started the new campaign last night and champions Golden State Warriors started their defence with a win over the Thunder. Now, as Minnesota readies for its season opener on Wednesday, it appears the Timberwolves are prepared to open the season with him on the team as trade talks have cooled.

Butler has made it clear that he no longer wants to play for the Wolves, but, after their talks, Taylor is confident that he will continue to give 100% until traded.

Kevin Garnett says Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor doesn't know anything about basketball, and is partly to blame for the ongoing Jimmy Butler saga. "He will be a regular team player".

Asked if Thibodeau is coaching for his job, Taylor said, "No, no, the only thing now is that we are starting to play games and I am asking him to concentrate on coaching and the GM Scott Layden will help to see if any trades are available".

The Timberwolves begin their season on Wednesday night against the San Antonio Spurs, and Butler, who has returned to practice after being away from the team for much of the preseason, is expected to play "if he feels good".

Butler would enter free agency next summer but is desperate to move on sooner. "But that is not what we have agreed to".

"Yes, yes, he is a good coach and I have faith in him", he said.

"I really do think there will be negotiations". One, he knows the team will not be as successful without him.
