WWE’s Roman Reigns Reveals Battle With Leukemia; Relinquishes Universal Title

In a shocking and sad moment, Roman Reigns revealed that he has been battling leukemia for 11 years and that it recently came back.

Roman Reigns opened tonight's WWE RAW by announcing that he's been living with leukemia for the past 11 years and it's back.

"Sometimes life throws you a curveball and the best thing for me to do is to go home and focus on my health", Anoa'i said.

He explained that this led to a very hard period of his life, with a baby on the way and his football career over.

Reigns, who has been in remission since late 2008, ended his annoucement by relinqueshing his WWE title and embracing his fellow Shield members, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose, before heading backstage. I can't be that fighting champion, and I'm going to have to relinquish the WWE Universal Championship'.

Reigns, whose full name is Leati Joseph Anoaʻi, grew up playing football in Pensacola, Florida, later starring for Georgia Tech before being signed by both the Minnesota Vikings and the Jacksonville Jaguars during the 2007 off-season. However, he was cut by both teams before the season ever began and never played a snap in an National Football League game.

Reigns was scheduled to defend the WWE Universal at Crown Jewel on November 2 against Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman. He had no money, no home, and a new baby.

The support and love he will surely receive from the WWE community will help keep him strong during this pressing time.

A portion of the speech was tweeted out by WWE, which you can see below.
