You can go to your local pharmacy, doctor's office, or hospital to get the shot, but you should probably know that there are two different types of shots, each of which offers varying coverage.

It will take place on the second floor of the Police Department Thursday from 3pm-5pm.

Health officials are urging all Americans over six months old to get a flu shot now as flu activity is expected to pick up by next month.

It is a first come, first served basis.

"The flu vaccine is the most effective way to protect yourself from catching the flu this season", Papatya Tankut, R.Ph, Vice President of Pharmacy Affairs at CVS Health tells Bustle via email.

Flu season has reared it's ugly head in the United States as the death of an unvaccinated Florida child has been confirmed due to the flu; the first pediatric casualty of virus season. It usually doesn't arrive until January or so so this is early. "When you get the flu shot, it reduces your risk of being seriously ill, taking time away from school, work or spending time with families". 2017Health Department data show that only 44 percent of people 18 years and older got the flu shot in 2017, and one-third of children under 5 were not vaccinated during the 2017-18.

In addition, your immune system may not develop strong enough antibodies to the strains of influenza in the vaccine, which could result in an increased chance that you could still get the flu. Every year I get asked the same questions by patients about it, so I thought I would write a little summary to all the folks here in Hays County. Pharmacists around Madison County are vaccinating people this flu season, however, North Florida Pharmacy, located at 139 SW Macon St., in Madison, is now administering free vaccinations for anyone over 18, with special doses for anyone over the age of 65. Additionally, pregnant women and children younger than five years old are at higher risk of contracting the flu. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there were approximately 80,000 deaths and 900,000 hospitalizations from influenza in the United States a year ago.

After receiving the shot, people can expect to experience arm soreness and even a few flu-like symptoms, both minor forms of discomfort compared to the trials and tribulations sure to accompany an actual flu diagnosis. The quadrivalent vaccine protects against two influenza A viruses and two influenza B viruses. Today's influenza testing has much better sensitivity than in years past.

For this reason, expert authorities specifically recommend the flu vaccine for pregnant women. The flu vaccine doesn't prevent against all flu-causing viruses, but it is formulated to protect against the most common ones.

Most adults can have the injected flu vaccine, but you should avoid it if you have had a serious allergic reaction to a flu vaccine in the past.

"We never know exactly what we're going to get", she said. "Influenza can be the trigger for other complicated health issues".
