On Feb. 14, we watched Starman disappear into deep space, after being carried carried into orbit by SpaceX's Falcon Heavy rocket, which launched its maiden flight and landed two of its three main boosters back on Earth - we were there.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said that the reason for putting Starman into space was that it was more fun than the typical payload dummy that space companies use to test their rockets.

Although the final firing of the rocket's upper stage back when it launched put the auto on a more distant trajectory than anticipated, SpaceX said in a short Twitter post it had passed Mars's orbit. According to SpaceX, "the restaurant at the end of the universe", in a nod to Douglas Adams' 1980 novel of the same name, the sequel to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Recently, the company also confirmed that it was able to manufacture as many as 5,000 Model 3 cars in a day at its Nevada Gigafactory, allowing it to deliver pre-ordered units to customers.

The vehicle will now continue its orbit, looping back toward us, where it is expected to cross Earth's orbit in August 2019.
