Pakistani state broadcaster apologises for error during PM Khan's Beijing speech

Pakistan's Imran Khan caught in 'begging' broadcast error in China

Pakistan's Imran Khan caught in 'begging' broadcast error in China

A blooper by state-run Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) made the channel a target of online trolls after mistakenly the channel wrote Begging instead of Beijing as location tag during their Prime Minister Imran Khan's maiden address in China, who was speaking at the Communist party's Central Party School on Monday. The typo reportedly remained onscreen for a good 20 seconds or so before it was rectified.

On last Sunday, in an ironic gaffe spreading on social media, PTV aired a speech by Prime Minister Imran Khan which he was giving in Beijing with the dateline "Begging". It was flashed on the top left corner of the screen where it remained for 20 seconds before it was changed.

The faux pas is particularly scathing since Khan is looking to secure support from China to overcome massive economic hurdles in the country.

Following the "typographical error" broadcast at the weekend, PTV posted a short statement on Twitter describing the incident as "regrettable".

Information and Broadcasting Minister Fawad Chaudhry has ordered an inquiry into the incident, The News International reported.

During his visit, Prime Minister Khan held talks with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang mainly focussing on seeking China's loans to tide over serious financial crisis faced by Pakistan. "Strict action has been initiated under rules against concerned officials". He is now on his first official trip to China in order to boost the economic corporation between the two countries as China is one of its very few allies left.
