San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said he would support Beto O’Rourke in his Senate race against Ted Cruz

With Conan O'Brien's late-night show now on hiatus, Stephen Colbert made a decision to steal one of his rival's main correspondents for some last-minute election coverage, deploying Triumph the Insult Comic Dog to cover the Texas Senate race between Republican incumbent Ted Cruz and Democratic challenger Beto O'Rourke.

Before Triumph interviewed Cruz, he spoke to his opponent, O'Rourke.

'Does it concern you that half your base thinks they can vote through Instagram?', Triumph asks, drawing a laugh out of the Democrat. A CBP spokesman said today's activities are "operational readiness exercises" related to preparing for the caravan, which is still hundreds of miles south of the border.

"What do you have that Ted Cruz doesn't have?" "Besides the ability to regenerate his tail!" Triumph asks someone in the crowd at a Cruz rally. "See, because he's a reptile".

"If Ted loses, do you think he'll end up back with his first love, that mute lady from The Shape of Water?". Triumph's comeback: "Hey, I support spaying!" "See, because he's a ugly fish monster".

Next up was Harlingen, Texas, where Triumph announced, "I'm here at the Ted Cruz rally, or a Duck Dynasty cosplay convention, not 100 percent sure". "Is that covered under the GOP healthcare plan?" I'm not overwhelming scientific evidence of global warming!" and "Ted, quick question!

"Ted, is it true you will defend the constitution at all costs?"

Moving over to Cruz voters, Triumph noted the senator famously called Trump "amoral", "philanderer", and "buffoon". "Just like Trump did to you". While he treats his wounds, watch the entire video from Monday night's Colbert show below.
