Nationals want to re-sign star Bryce Harper

It turns out that he rejected a contract offer from the team that very day.

The Washington Nationals are still hoping to re-sign Bryce Harper.

It's always been thought that the Nationals will not be able to out-spend the likes of the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers for Harper's services in 2019 and beyond. That offer included no opt-outs, and was less than the $400 million some have speculated Harper could receive, according to a person with direct knowledge who would not disclose the exact terms.

"It's definitely insane walking in today and knowing this could be my last game at Nats Park in my white jersey ..."

Time will tell regarding what Harper is worth around the league, but at least we now know what he's not willing to take.

The 2019 Major League Baseball free agency class has always been looked at one of the more anticipated, with Bryce Harper among the headliners.

Now that Harper is officially a free agent, he can negotiate with any team. "We didn't get anything done, but he's a guy that is near and dear to us and we are not closing any doors".

"He's shown the type of player he is and now he's a grizzled veteran", Rizzo said.
