The Detroit Lions have waived former Nebraska Running Back Ameer Abdullah, according to a report from Ian Rapoport. The Lions will be Ellington's third team. The 27-year-old Ellington has played in 40 games for San Francisco and Houston, catching 56 passes for 637 yards and five touchdowns.

After the team drafted Kerryon Johnson in 2018 and brought in LeGarrette Blount, Abdullah found himself as the odd man out in Detroit.

Abdullah had one carry, two catches and returned four kickoffs in three games this year.

Taken with the No. 54 pick in the 2015 draft, Abdullah appeared in 35 games with the Lions, rushing 327 times for 1,251 yards and six touchdowns along with catching 57 passes for 420 yards. He saw just three total touches this season while playing in three games.

Richardson comes to the Lions after most recently spending the preseason with the Minnesota Vikings. Zenner started the season on the reserve/injured list but was released with an injury settlement.

The Lions had another open roster spot after waiving receiver Andy Jones on Monday and filled that by signing running back Zach Zenner on Tuesday.

Abdullah graduated from Nebraska in 2014, and during his career as a Husker, he had 813 rush attempts for 4,588 yards and 39 touchdowns.
