Rivers threw touchdown passes of 12 yards to Tyrell Williams and 30 yards to Mike Williams, and let the Chargers defense stymie Wilson until the final minutes. He missed a 42-yard field goal wide left in the third quarter with the Chargers leading, 19-10. In other moments, Wilson looked uncertain - especially with Seattle's run game working only in spurts because of a hip injury to starter Chris Carson.

The Chargers's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Melvin Gordon, who rushed for 113 yards and 1 touchdown on 16 carries, and Philip Rivers, who passed for 228 yards and 2 touchdowns.

"We've found ourselves in most of the games we didn't win right there at the end, so close to getting it done", Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. This was largely thanks to the strong Seattle secondary, but they proved to have no match for Keenan Allen, and Rivers regular turned to him in times of need.

Gordon averaged 7.1 yards per carry and ran through huge holes in the second half. Of Seattle's next nine possessions, none gained more than 49 net yards and only one - finishing off the first half - ended in points when Sebastian Janikowski hit a 44-yard field goal. Seattle had won four of five following a 0-2 start.

"We got behind the sticks today and it hasn't happened for about a month now".

The Seahawks allowed 11 explosive plays on defense in their loss to the Chargers.

Despite all that, Wilson almost pulled off another fourth-quarter rally. A completed pass here or a properly executed block there could have made the difference.

Seattle got a break on the pass interference call, putting the ball at the 1 for an untimed down. McDougald will likely be a very limited participant in practice this week, but Carroll said he was pleased with the performance of backup Delano Hill stepping in for McDougald, who has been one of Seattle's top defensive players this season.
