Cashman Yankees want to bring back Sabathia Happ

CC Sabathia is headed back to the Yankees.

The Yankees now have three surefire rotation members heading into next season: Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka and Sabathia.

With two AL Cy Young awards and four top-three finishes in the last five years, Kluber is the best of the bunch and might cost NY the most in terms of assets. Still, it feels pretty safe to assume Sabathia returns to the Yankees next year on this deal. While the team could enter the 2019 Major League Baseball season with one of the two big bats on their roster, general manager Brian Cashman has made it clear that the organization's primary goal is to improve the starting rotation.

The Cleveland Indians will listen to trade packages for both Corey Kluber and Carlos Carrasco, according to ESPN's Buster Olney. He missed a $500,000 performance bonus by two innings when he was ejected in his last regular-season start for hitting Tampa Bay's Jesus Sucre after Rays pitcher Andrew Kittredge threw up-and-in to Austin Romine.

"Well, we're going to try to sign him, " Cashman said Tuesday afternoon during his media availability. I'm interested in adding more than one pitcher.

Said Cashman: "He's been a great Yankee and he has some time on the clock still".

The lefty veteran had a 3.65 ERA across 153 innings over 29 starts this season. After that, Sonny Gray is likely to be traded soon.

"I'll play anywhere, " he said before the Yankees were eliminated by the Boston Red Sox in the ALDS "I still want to pitch".

Cashman sidestepped questions about infielder Manny Machado, one of the top two offensive free agents along with Bryce Harper.

It was an easy reunion for the Yankees and their big lefty, who made it clear on the eve of the team's Game 4 loss in the ALDS that NY was where he wanted to be.
