Smith, Warner play together for first time since ban

David Warner was dismissed for 13 in his grade match for Randwick Petersham against Randwick at Coogee Oval on Saturday

"Doesn't matter if they (Australia) don't have good players like Steve Smith and David Warner".

Smith and Warner are into the 8th month of their one year bans and talks from Cricket Australia (CA) suggest that the bans may be reduced.

But the former vice-captain has found humour in the drama-filled headlines and insists he and Smith still share a close bond outside the professional environment.

"We're catching up with each other and texting each other".

Rumours aside, both Warner and Smith have been overwhelmed by the tidal wave of public support as their brief grade cricket careers have attracted nearly as much attention as the national team.

According to a report in Cricket Australia, both Smith and Warner signed autographs and posed with fans in attendance at the local club ground.

"It's kind of surreal, " Warner said of his time in grade cricket.

Sehwag also went on to add that he believes Kohli and his team are capable of winning anywhere and that they have to bat well in the first innings to match Australia. "We just want the game to be pumped us as much as we can".

The 32-year-old left-hander started to look in nice touch off his legs, hitting two boundaries off the back foot, but his 16-ball knock was ended when he fell to the fourth ball of Waugh's first over, with the medium-pacer claiming an early present, one day prior to his 19th birthday.

Whether it's at Coogee Oval or the SCG, Warner said he was as passionate as ever - even if sometimes that passion gets the better of him.

"I'm always motivated", Warner said.

"These players who are coming and playing in Test cricket have already played first-class cricket there". At the end of the day we're trying to play the game hard but in the right spirits.

"It's quite challenging at times when you're out in the middle, this brings a bit of a sense of reality back. It's great, it's great for the game".
