A statement on Marvel.com reads: "Today, Marvel Comics and The Walt Disney Company pause and reflect with great sadness on the passing of Marvel Chairman Emeritus, Stan Lee". Ruffalo shared a picture of his Avengers co-stars, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson and Downey Jr. Comic book fans everywhere flocked to social media, and it's clear that Lee's influence also reverberated within the hip-hop realm. What a life and what a thing to have achieved. He was a kind, generous and amusing man and it was an honour to meet him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the fans of not only his work, but of him, as a friend who made the world a better place.

It wasn't just that Lee created these characters; his work also upended expectations within the comic book industry.
