Pele: Don't Compare Lionel Messi To Me, He Has One Skill!

Brazil legend, Pele, has slammed Lionel Messi as having one skill and says he was a better player than the Barcelona superstar. "He had bad luck because the team didn't win the World Cup and he was branded", Pele told the daily Folha de Sao Paulo.

"How can you compare?"

While placing himself above Messi in the all-time pecking order, Pele has also suggested that a number of other players sit above the Blaugrana star.

But Messi's decade at the pinnacle of the game, alongside generational great Cristiano Ronaldo, have seen more and more observers applying the all-time great tag to the 31-year-old Argentinian.

"How can you make a comparison between a guy who heads the ball well, shoots with the left, shoots with the right and another who only shoots with one leg, only has one skill and doesn't head the ball well?".

He then went on to say that for him, Maradona is a lot better than Messi: "As far as I'm concerned, Maradona was one of the best players ever".

In the same interview, Pele also said Argentinian World Cup victor Maradona was "much better" than his compatriot Messi - although the Brazilian has been on record as previously saying that even Maradona could not compare in the pantheon of all-time greats, due to the same apparent flaws as Messi.

"[Franz] Beckenbauer, [Johan] Cruyff were also excellent players".

A remarkable tally of 567 club goals have been recorded in 653 appearances, with another 65 netted in 128 outings for his country.

The forward helped his nation to three World Cups while Messi has never lifted the trophy.
