Charlie Cox breaks silence on Daredevil cancellation: 'I'm very saddened'

At least, until the show's star, Charlie Cox, finally stepped forward and offered his thoughts about the abrupt end to one of Netflix's biggest shows in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Given that Daredevil was apparently Netflix's fourth most-watched show after Narcos: Mexico, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Stranger Things, it certainly seems odd that the streaming service would be the one to pull the plug on the series. Although he's just as bummed as the rest of us, he did leave the door open for a possible return to the role in the future. "The truth is, I felt like we had a lot of stories to tell, and although I understand [the decision to cancel the series], I'm very saddened by that".

"It's just how business works", Cox continued. "These characters mean a lot to people". It's weird to think there's a chance I won't be playing Matt Murdock ever again. From Cox's solemn quotes, it seems obvious he thinks it's the end. "That's a freaky feeling, because that character has been such a huge part of my life for the last four and a half years". "You get to do all the acting obviously, which is great, but then there's also this really fun physical aspect to it with all the stunts and the fight choreograph", Cox added.

That, of course, doesn't mean that, if the character continues, it will be Cox playing him, or that any of the existing actors, writers, etc. would come back.

Still, Cox admits he would want to play the character again.

"I hate to be boring, but to be honest, I don't think I should answer that", Cox said. But he was cautious not to give any hints about what Season 4 might have held, since not only would all of that be parsed / speculated to death by fans, but also because, as he says, "I don't [want to] give any false hope". It's quite painful for quite a lot of people.

Hmmmm. Could we ever see a rebirth of "Daredevil"? "I don't know how this would happen, but maybe one day we could pick up the baton and do it again".
