Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign to enter production in 50 unit limited run

The Japanese automaker revealed the auto at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed in July to celebrate the 50th anniversary (hence the name and production number) of the GT-R nameplate, first appearing on the original Skyline GT-R as revealed at the 1968 Tokyo Motor Show.

The last time we talked about the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign was when the vehicle was on hand at the Goodwood Festival of Speed to a run up the hill.

Nissan teamed up with the Turin-based design firm to create the model (based on the GT-R Nismo), in commemoration of the 50th anniversaries of both GT-R and Italdesign.

The Japanese automaker says the production car's exterior is "virtually unchanged" from the concept auto that debuted at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed. In fact, the car's exterior will be virtually unchanged from the coupe that was shown at Goodwood earlier this year, based on the GT-R Nismo and styled in collaboration with Pininfarina.

Nissan notes that while the prototype GT-R50 was covered in gray with gold accents, customers will get to specify their preferred color.

"The reaction from Nissan fans around the world - and potential customers of the GT-R50 - has greatly exceeded our expectations", said Nissan's global sports vehicle director, Bob Laishley.

The price for owning one of these 50 machines will be proportional to their rarity and technical ability: Nissan says that each will start at 990,000 euros, which translates to about $1,130,000 before options and various taxes, depending on country. All that work means deliveries will take some time - cars aren't expected to reach owners until 2019, and deliveries will continue through 2020.

Developed to celebrate the 50 anniversaries of the GT-R and Italdesign, the ultra-exclusive GT-R50 will be limited to strictly 50 cars. Those fortunate enough to sign their names on the dotted line to claim a GT-R50 will be able to spec their cars inside and out.
