Talks were set to continue after the tournament but Liverpool pulled the plug.

However, after losing two Premier League games in three matches, Maurizio Sarri might well be looking for a more attacking threat, and Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas admitted that there is now a time-frame for a player to sign a new deal.

With his contract running down and continued uncertainty over Fekir's relationship with his agent Jean-Pierre Bernes, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas told his club's AGM that his team captain needs to make a decision on his future.

Fekir's current deal has just 18 months left until it expires.

If he seeks an exit from the Ligue 1 side, Liverpool maybe tempted to revive a deal if Jurgen Klopp is still on the lookout for an attacking midfielder.

Xherdan Shaqiri has done a better job than expected of being a cut-price alternative to Fekir, but reports in France suggest that Lyon want the Frenchman's situation sorted out before Christmas, which may allow Liverpool an opportunity to swoop in.

Chelsea and Bayern Munich also remain interested in the player.

If he does not sign on the dotted line it could see him leave the club on a free transfer in 2020.

"The sorting out of various things concerning who the agent is, is ongoing".

"He said:" The aim, is to have a clear and precise position from his point of view between now and the end of the year".

"Jean-Pierre Bernès is still his agent but he can not be so at the end of the player's contract".
