Further, the Scala is also the first model to feature "SKODA" in block lettering across its tailgate instead of the brand's logo.

Design inspiration of the Skoda Scala hatchback has been derived from the Vision RS concept that first broke cover at the 2018 Paris Motor Show.

Visually, the new Scala can sit on 15- or 16-inch steel wheels, but high-spec models get aero-optimised 16- to 18-inch wheels.

The Skoda Scala seems like a very promising product but we aren't sure whether this auto will be launched in the Indian market or not. While the Scala represents numerous firsts for the Czech brand, the most crucial debut on the hatch is that of Volkswagen's MQB A0 platform, which now underpins worldwide VW models like the Polo and the new T-Cross.

The Scala - whose name, fact fans, comes from the Latin for "ladder" - marks a bit of a design revolution for Skoda, featuring a prominent, aggressive grille and the Skoda name spelt out across its boot lid.

The Scala measures 4,362 mm long, 1,793 mm wide and 1,471 mm tall and has a 2,649 mm wheelbase. It gets an optional 10.25-inch driver display (virtual cockpit) and a 9.2-inch infotainment screen. It has a 467-litre boot space which increases to 1,410 litres with the rear seats folded. Updates to the car's infotainment system and satellite navigation can be delivered over the air (OTA) via the built-in SIM card, which connects to the Internet. The petrol range starts with the turbocharged three-cylinder 1.0 TSI with 95PS or 115PS. A selection of five engine variants is available, with power outputs ranging from 66 kW (90 PS) to 110 kW (150 PS).

There's also a 86kW/250Nm 1.6-litre turbo-diesel, and a 66kW/145Nm 1.0-litre 3-cylinder running on compressed natural gas. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic unit. Buyers can also opt for an optional sport chassis, which will reduce the ride height by 15mm. Most notable, the Scala comes with a comprehensive sport mode which lowers the vehicle by 15mm and stiffens up the springs for a more engaging drive.

The list of options is surprisingly rich: separate climate control, adaptive cruise control, electric tailgate with hands free function, Wi-Fi, adaptive cruise control, the Park assist system, control system layout and pre-emptive braking. "It is an all-new model that sets benchmarks within its segment in terms of technology, safety and design", he said.

There's also multi-collision brake, side assist, blind spot detect, rear traffic alert, lane assist and front assist with city emergency brake (standard, detects pedestrians as well).
