Attention, all people with periods: Certain Kotex tampons are being recalled for a quality-related defect none of us want to experience.

"No other U by Kotex-branded products are subject to this recall", Kimberly-Clark said.

There are reports of the regular absorbancy version of the product unraveling and/or falling apart upon being removed, with some cases requiring medical attention for the pieces to be removed.

The tampons were sold in 18-count, 34-count and 3-count packages, as well as being included in 34-count multipacks of various types of tampons.

Consumers that experience symptoms such a pain, bleeding, discomfort, vaginal itching or swelling, bladder, vaginal or yeast infections, hot flashes, abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting should seek immediate medical attention.

U by Kotex Sleek Tampons, manufactured between Oct. 7, 2017, and Oct. 15, 2018, and distributed between Oct. 17, 2016, and Oct. 23, 2018, have been recalled. Retailers have been instructed to remove any of the affected products they may have in stock, and users with any in their possession should "stop using the product immediately and promptly contact Kimberly-Clark". You do not need to return them to the store.

The company which produces the products, Kimberly-Clark, said there were reports or vaginal irritation and even vaginal injury. Any time a foreign object is left in the vagina, there's risk of infection and potentially toxic shock syndrome.
