One moment in Everton loss highlighted the need for a new striker

Leicester boss Claude Puel made four changes from the team which lost to Cardiff City on Saturday, including leaving midfielder James Maddison on the bench.

After a poor first half, the decisive goal came when Everton defender Michael Keane mis-controlled the ball to Ricardo Pereira, who sent Vardy through.

Marco Silva's men were growing in the game after half-an-hour using the big figure of Richarlison to hold onto balls and bring the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson from midfield.

Everton, with just one win from their last eight games, have now failed to win in their last four home matches.

The Tigers were content to run down the clock to walk away with the all-important points and a seventh place standing in the process.

Jamie Vardy had the first shot in anger for the Foxes in the tenth minute but he gave it too much power from just outside the box and it sailed over the bar.

Within a matter of seconds, however, Everton had produced two of their own and Jamie Vardy was streaking clear to dispatch an accomplished left-foot finish in a solitary moment of redeeming quality.

"When you play so anxious you make easy mistakes like the one we conceded".

"But we were not under the normal pressure of a football game".

"The organisation of the team was flawless and I am happy for the players because we lost our last game at home to Cardiff and it was not a fair result", the Frenchman said. It was a hard challenge of course, but the team showed character. "We will find the reasons for that".

Everton have slumped to a woeful 10th in the table, 27 points and and a zero goal difference after 21 games, with the early kickoff on New Year's Day meaning the team have to wait to see whether other clubs such as Brighton, Bournemouth and West Ham United leapfrog them.
