On Sunday, authorities charged 20-year-old Eric Black Jr. with capital murder in the tragic and senseless death of 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes.

Police arrested Larry D. Woodruffe, 24, on Saturday on a felony drug possession charge, but it wasn't until a few days later that prosecutors said they had enough evidence to charge him for the child's death.

The announcement of the new charge came the same day as Jazmine's funeral, where many mourners wore Jazmine's favorite color, purple, the Houston Chronicle reported. Jazmine's mother, LaPorsha Washington says she was driving with her four daughters in the vehicle when someone opened fire hitting her in the arm and killing Jazmine.

Woodruffe, 24, has been charged with capital murder after the little girl was gunned down in her mother's auto in Houston, Texas as they drove to a grocery store.

According to police, Black said the shooting was a case of mistaken identity.

"There was nothing to indicate that the family did anything wrong in any way", Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.

Black and Woodruffe are both being held in the Harris County jail without bail.

Court records did not list an attorney for Woodruffe. They were fired upon and Barnes was fatally hit; her mother, 30-year-old LaPorsha Washington, was injured.

Black said the gun used in the shooting was at his home, the affidavit says.

A sketch drawn up by the Harris County Sheriff's Office, which greatly resembles Cantrell, a white man with blue eyes, was released and then widely circulated by the prominent Black Lives Matter activist, Shaun King, last week. Jazmine, who would have turned 8 next month, was shot in the head and killed. A second suspect is also in police custody on drug charges, but is believed to be connected to the crime.

Hundreds gathered Saturday to honor Jazmine outside the Walmart near where she was killed.

Hailey Cantrell says despite the arrests of two suspects in the murder case, as recent as Monday, there have been threatening comments on her Facebook page regarding her uncle, Robert Cantrell.

"I just want everyone to like, back off", she told the station. "Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night", a tearful Washington said as she read the poem. Houston Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins has said he'll donate his playoff game check to the family. O'Neal and Houston Senior Police Officer Kenneth Miles brought a cashier's check to the family last week to pay for the funeral.

A GoFundMe account set up to help cover funeral costs has raised more than $81,900 from almost 3,000 donors.
