Art II: 'Hard To Envision' Antonio Brown Staying With Steelers In 2019

Antonio Brown's future in Pittsburgh is starting to become even more clear following the comments by the president of the team.

Rooney said in the Post-Gazette interview that it would be "hard to envision" Brown as part of the team as it reports to training camp in late July. That makes a trade the likeliest exit scenario for the All-Pro receiver, though Rooney was unwilling to commit to any particular plan at this stage. "We don't have to make those decisions right now". But I will say all other options are on the table.Whether the situation can be reconciled and have him back on the team next year, we're a long way away from thinking that can happen. "We have two months to go before we can do anything".

Rooney indicates that the player has still refused to return phone calls from himself, Tomlin and teammates and did not appear for the compulsory end-of-season evaluation.

The report comes from Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, who tweeted out the following on Thursday afternoon. That brought about plenty of speculation that Brown had played his final game in Pittsburgh's black and yellow. You can probably rule out, for instance, new Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians from any provisional trade-destination list, as he and Brown aren't necessarily on the best of terms. We all know there have been problems with Brown's attitude and his relationship with the team over the last two seasons. Whether Brown possibly could come back remains a big hurdle if Rooney's words are to be believed.

Rooney said the cap hit would not play into the team's decision.

The Brown situation is certainly a freaky one.

The only problem is, trading him would be costly - not just in terms of the production the Steelers would be losing.
