Sanders Apologizes for Harassment Among 2016 Campaign Staff

The campaign was celebrating the end of Sanders' improbable run for the nomination when Becker told the woman he wanted to have sex with her and made the reference to his "pole", the newspaper said.

Bernie Sanders (I-VT), forcibly kissed a female staffer shortly after the Democratic National Convention. But accounts of harassment from women who worked on his last campaign threaten to tarnish his image as a progressive and come at a time when female voters are central to the Democratic Party's strategy for defeating President Donald Trump. The victim did not formally report the incident at the time, but said she's now coming forward to ensure this doesn't happen again in 2020.

Weaver told Politico that "without getting into the specifics of an incident where the woman involved has not given me express permission to speak, I only became aware recently".

Weaver is reportedly leaving because Sanders needs his staff to be more diverse after facing accusations of not understanding racial issues. He said he considered the allegation to be credible. But when Becker recently reached out to her over a potential 2020 Sanders run, she changed her mind and made a decision to tell top Sanders aides.

"To be clear: No one who committed sexual harassment in 2016 would be back if there were a 2020 campaign", the group added. They called Becker's alleged behavior "deplorable and fundamentally unacceptable".

Politico reported Thursday morning that Sanders's former Iowa campaign manager was part of a $30,000 federal discrimination settlement with two former employees. Becker, however, said he was just tasked with reviewing "potentially questionable or damaging social media posts of potential hires".

"Bernie Sanders is facing backlash after new allegations of sexual harassment against one of his former top campaign aides", Todd explained.

'I categorically deny these allegations of improper and unprofessional conduct.' The alleged assault, he wrote in a statement, is 'at odds with my recollection of a late evening filled with many hugs and kisses and tears and conversations about what's next'.

Sen. Sanders addressed the allegations on CNN in a manner that some regarded as dismissive.

While Sanders is reportedly becoming more serious by the day about forging a second White House bid to challenge President Donald Trump in 2020, dozens of women and men who worked on the his 2016 presidential campaign have signed a letter requesting a meeting with the Vermont senator and his top political advisers "to discuss the issue of sexual violence and harassment on the 2016 campaign, for the goal of planning to mitigate the issue in the upcoming presidential cycle", Politico reported.

"Yes, I was a little bit busy running around the country trynna make the case", he said when asked if he had missed the harassment on his campaign.
