The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for northern Erie County, including the city of Erie, in effect until 6 p.m. today. A winter storm watch is in effect for that part of the state. Unlike December's storm, this one will have more areas seeing a wintry mix and plain rain.

Several inches of snow are possible in southeast Iowa as a storm system moves through the region late Friday into the first half of the weekend.

Today rain could start anytime with a small potential of patchy freezing drizzle early in the morning but most of the precipitation type today will be rain.

As of Thursday afternoon, the weather service's forecast specifically for Lawrence predicted a rainy Friday. As the system continues to move east toward the southeastern USA snow will spread into central Illinois Friday night and continue through the day Saturday. If you are traveling during the advisory period, plan on slippery conditions.

"2-3" should fall north with 3-5" over a good chunk of the area & 5-7" in the far southwest & south on the edge of the Winter Storm Watch area. Highs on Saturday will reach the mid 30s, but afternoon wind chills will be in the mid to upper 20s.

Highs Friday are expected to be in the mid to upper 30s before falling below freezing.
