A man has died in Florida, having been struck by a helicopter blade.

A death investigation is underway in Hernando County, Florida after a person was decapitated by a helicopter at Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport.

A Fire Rescue official, confirmed to local CBS station 10News that the victim was decapitated by the rotor of the helicopter.

The incident was reported at about 3:35 p.m. near the hangars of the airport at 16308 Flight Path Drive, Nienhuis said.

Two men were using a power cart to jumpstart a helicopter when it began acting erratically - moving up and then down. Nienhuis said at a news conference that there was no sign of foul play.

Commenting on the accident, the sheriff's office said it believes the incident was not deliberate, on anyone's part, though they stressed police will fully investigate the case to see if a crime has been committed.

Following a request from the airport, the Medical Examiner's Office in Leesburg collected the body from the scene.

He was named Thursday night as Salvatore Disi, 62, from Hudson.

The aircraft involved in the fatal incident appears to be a 1993 Bell 230 twin-engine light helicopter, according to Federal Aviation Administration records. The sheriff said it did not take place near the runways and air traffic was not affected.
