Video shows bus driver rescuing baby wandering alone near road

Irena Ivic saw the baby boy walking alone in freezing temperatures next to a busy road around 8 a.m., the Milwaukee County Transit System said.

Video shared by the Milwaukee County Transit System shows bus driver Irena Ivic stopping her bus to rescue a crying child that was wandering barefoot down a highway overpass early on December 22, 2018. A passenger on Ivic's bus gave up her coat to keep the infant warm while they waited for firefighters, police and transit security officers to arrive, WISN-TV reports. He was wearing just a onesie and a diaper.

She runs across the street and picks up the crying boy, who was making his way around a corner, bringing him on board her bus. Surveillance camera footage from inside the bus shows a concerned passenger waiting by the door when Ivic returned with the boy in her arms.

Ivic is being honored for her act of kindness with an MCTS Excellence award.

The baby girl was unharmed.

Authorities eventually reunited the baby girl with her father.

According to authorities, the toddler was discovered to be less than a year old and it's believed the mother, who may have been suffering from mental health issues, may have left the boy outside.

This is the ninth lost or missing child found by MCTS Drivers in recent years.
