Police Believe Bird Box Challenge Resulted in Car Crash

Layton police say a 17-year old drove blindfolded while doing the ‘Bird Box’ challenge. It didn’t end well

The driver then lost control and slid into the westbound lane, striking a white passenger vehicle and a light pole near 675 Layton Parkway, Lyman said.

A teen driver attempting a new and risky fad inspired by a Netflix movie caused a crash earlier this week, Layton Police say.

All this despite the fact that Netflix have actually warned people to stop doing the Bird Box challenge.

Luckily, there were no injuries but both cars sustained damage.

The 17-year-old girl was said to have had a 16-year-old male passenger in the truck with her.

Police said that the teen initially told authorities that the crash occurred because she was talking to her friend and gotten distracted, KSL reported.

The "Bird Box Challenge" takes its name from a recent Netflix movie in which the characters must remain blindfolded.

Well, we might be getting into an area where films that become pop-culture phenomenons require ridiculous warnings because just like the idea of sticking your head into a bee hive or swimming with sharks, driving with a blindfold isn't the cleverest thing to do.

Shockingly, the teen crashed into another vehicle because it's not easy to drive when you can not see.

In the viral challenge, participants attempt to do ordinary things while blindfolded, which, again, is unsafe for obvious reasons.

Police are screening a charge of reckless driving with the city attorney.
