Rick Nash, Ex-Bruins Winger, Retires Due To Concussion-Related Symptoms

He had 34 points (21 goals, 13 assists) in 71 games with Boston and the Rangers in 2017-18, including six points (three goals, three assists) in 11 games after he was acquired February 25 in a trade for forwards Ryan Spooner and Matt Beleskey, defenseman Ryan Lindgren and two draft picks.

Six-time NHL All-Star Rick Nash is retiring, citing ongoing concussion symptoms and the risk of further brain injuries, his agent announced in a statement Friday. Rick would like to thank everyone who has supported him during this hard period. After a few months of weighing his options, Nash decided it would be best if he just retired in order to keep his health intact.

Nash, who won the Rocket Richard Trophy as the NHL's leading goal-scorer in 2003-04 (41), has 46 points (18 goals, 28 assists) in 89 National Hockey League playoff games.

The 2002 first overall pick still ranks first in Blue Jackets history in games played (674), goals (289), assists (258), and points (547).

But after the season, Nash informed teams that he would not entertain offers as a free-agent forward, instead taking time to decide on his future. He also enjoyed incredible success on the worldwide stage, winning two Olympic gold medals for Canada and three silvers at the World Championship. Nash was often criticized for playoff struggles, but he was a part of the team's run to the 2014 Stanley Cup Finals where they lost to the Kings. The team followed up with another tweet, linking to a story and saying, "He went on to play for the Rangers and Bruins, but Rick Nash will forever be a Columbus Blue Jacket". He also scored three goals and added two assists in 12 playoff games.

Nash was an unrestricted free agent after completing an eight-year, $62.4 million deal originally signed with Columbus. "I miss it, I love the game", Nash said. There's a chance I could get healthy, come back and be great.
