Fire fighters attend a blast at a bakery in central Paris

Several people have been injured in Paris after an explosion and fire at a bakery in Paris, police have said. Once they arrived, they had to evacuate people who were unable to leave buildings affected by the blast.

An explosion has rocked central Paris, with dozens of people injured, historic buildings damaged and cars alight. As per initial reports, the intensity of the blast has damaged several buildings and many casualties and injuries are being feared.

Silver-helmeted firefighters and red firetrucks filled the street and inspected adjoining courtyards.

"Cars are overturned. glass broken everywhere".

The building is around the corner from the Folies-Bergere theatre and not far from the shopping district that includes the famed headquarters of Galeries Lafayette.

Police have quickly ruled out any terror link or link to the ongoing yellow vest protests planned for the city later on Saturday.
