Aquaman Crosses the $1 Billion Mark at the Box Office

With $287.9 million from North America and $734.2 million domestically, Aquaman has now banked a whopping $1.020 billion. The superhero movie has now passed $1 billion at the global box office, making it one of the most successful movies in the history of cinema.

It's the first DCEU release to hit the billion dollar mark, and only the third DC movie in history to do so after The Dark Knight ($1.003 billion) and The Dark Knight Rises ($1.085 billion). Aquaman is the first of the six films in the D.C. Extended Universe to cross $1 billion worldwide according to Box Office Mojo. Furious 7, which he also directed, made over $1.5 billion back in 2015. The Dark Knight from 2008 and 2012's The Dark Knight Rises both have topped $1 billion.

In the US, "Aquaman" only had a 23.2% drop in box office earnings on its second weekend, and while it may have dropped from 4,184 theatres to 3,863 theatres on its fourth weekend, it's still performing extremely well and will likely continue to do so.

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, "Aquaman", starring Jason Momoa in the title role.

There's still one more country for Jason Momoa's Aquaman to conquer: The film won't open in Japan until February 8.
