A day ahead of the Kumbh Mela celebrations, a massive fire was triggered by a cylinder explosion in a tent at the site in Prayagraj on Monday.

As part of the measures to fight the disaster related to fire hazard, the management had said that utility of modern and innovative firefighting tools have been used.

There were no immediate reports of any one being injured, Akhara police station inspector Bhaskar Mishra told PTI.

According to officials, the fire broke out around 12.45pm.

There is heavy security cover in Prayagraj for the Kumbh mela that begins on Tuesday. Fire reached the spot and quickly brought the blaze under control.

The head of the Digambar Ani Akhada said the fire began at an adjoining tent and spread to the kitchen of their camp, triggering the cylinder blast.

The 2019 Kumbh Mela will commence on January 15 on Makar Sankranti which will be the first bathing day.
