Amir Khan finalises deal to challenge Terence Crawford for WBO world title

Amir Khan has agreed to face undefeated WBO world welterweight champion Terence Crawford in the United States on 20 April.

Terence Crawford will be a heavy favourite when he faces Amir Khan later this year, in the latest defence of his WBO welterweight title. Along with both fighters, Top Rank chairman Bob Arum and Frank Smith, the CEO of Matchroom Boxing, which has Khan's promotional rights in the United Kingdom but will work with Top Rank on the fight, are scheduled to be in attendance. It's rumored that the fight will be held on ESPN PPV.

A news conference is due to take place early next week that will provide more information regards the venue, which has been tipped to hold in either NY or Las Vegas, with the bout slated for April 20th. He made his first defense by one-sided 12th-round knockout of Jose Benavidez on October 13.

Khan, who last held a world title in 2012, will fight in the U.S. for the first time since his knockout loss against Canelo Alvarez in May 2016.

The Briton had an offer to face domestic rival Kell Brook in a bout, which his team had said would prove more financially rewarding.
