McQuarrie coming back for Mission: Impossible - Fallout after directing Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation bucked the franchise's tradition of having a new director come in for each installment.

Mission Impossible: Fallout, which starred a 56-year-old Tom Cruise, was a massive success commercially and critically. He helmed Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation in 2018 and returned for Mission: Impossible - Fallout in 2018.

According to Variety, these two films will be shot back-to-back, much like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

During his most recent interviews, Christopher McQuarrie hinted that he was ready to move on, and wanted to try something else for a little while. He was also considering directing a DCEU movie for Warner Bros., but passed to continue his work with Tom Cruise.

Aside from Mission Impossible McQuarrie has - either as director or screenwriter - worked on several Tom Cruise films, including Valkyrie, The Edge Of Tomorrow, The Mummy, both Jack Reachers, and the upcoming Top Gun sequel, Maverick. It made more than $791 million worldwide, which represented the biggest box office performance in the history of the Mission Impossible series. Director Christopher McQuarrie is also a part of the writing team of Top Gun: Maverick.

Although no date is set for the production to commence, sources expect McQuarrie to start shooting sometime in 2019.

How 'bout y'all? Are you excited to hear two more Mission: Impossibles are on the way?

Mission: Impossible - Fallout is now the best reviewed of the six movies. Paramount hopes that Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie can lock in on this magic yet again. Let's hope he can stay in one piece throughout both of these impending sequels.
