Washington Wizards Trade Otto Porter Jr To Bulls For Portis & Parker

John Wall discusses end of Otto Porter and Markieff Morris time with Wizards

Parker, who was a terrific scorer in college, has just not translated all that well to the pros, as he lacks the elite athleticism to adequately defend and he doesn't have enough of a three-point shot to spread the floor on offense.

The trade also ends a failed experiment for the Bulls after Parker signed a $40 million, two-year contract with his hometown team.

Portis and Parker left Chicago's United Center shortly before the Bulls tipped off against the Pelicans on Wednesday.

The Athletic first reported the trade.

In addition to Parker and Portis, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com is reporting that the Bulls will also send the Wizards a 2023 second-round draft pick. He is making $26 million this season and is owed $27.25 million next season, with a player option for 2020-21. This season, the Georgetown product has averaged 12.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists through 41 games. It's unfortunate. Otto was a part of the franchise for a long time. With Wall set to miss an entire year and potentially more, there was added incentive for the Wizards to shed Porter's contract. Porter had been dealing with injuries on and off this season, and though he is still just 25 years old, the upside with his financial setup and the Wizards' immediate trajectory was limited, and he becomes a casualty of the organization's new reality. General manager Ernie Grunfeld had signed the promising young forward to a four-year, $106 million deal prior to the 2017-18 season when it appeared the Wizards were on the rise.

Portis, averaging 14.1 points and 7.3 rebounds, has been limited to 22 games because of knee and ankle injuries. They initially planned for him to start at small forward, but former coach Fred Hoiberg shelved that quest in the preseason.

He averaged 14.3 points and 6.2 rebounds in 39 games (17 starts) with the Bulls, but he spent substantial time on the bench in recent weeks as the team turned to more developmental prospects instead.
