Gurira officially joined the cast during Season 3 and has been a fan-favorite ever since.

Mere months after Andrew Lincoln parted ways with AMC's The Walking Dead, Danai Gurira has announced that she plans to do the same, writes The Hollywood Reporter. However, it's been posited that she could appear in the Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) spin-off movies. But we certainly would want her on the show as long as she wants to be on it.

Rick was the central character of the show since the very beginning. AMC programming president David Madden had this to say about the actress back in November. After that, her character will leave the post-apocalyptic series forever. We really want her to stay.

"Obviously, the lesson of Andy is that the show can survive anybody's departure if need be, but that's not our goal". We love Danai. We love that character.

In addition to starring in The Walking Dead, Danai Gurira is an accomplished playwright and social activist. In 2016, her future Black Panther co-star starred in Eclipsed, a play that starred her future Black Panther castmate Lupita Nyong'o, earned Gurira a Tony nomination for best play.

Gurira's MCU character Okoye, the captain of the Dorae Milaje, the Wakandan Royal Guard, fought alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Infinity War and will likely play a key role in the upcoming Avengers: Endgame. Gurira has expertly used her time on The Walking Dead to launch a big screen career while being able to keep her Broadway roots intact.
