Illegal border crossing can be a dangerous journey

A U.S. -Mexico border crossing in Arizona has reopened following a shooting in which U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CPB) said one of their officers shot the driver of a vehicle attempting to cross into Mexico. "During this encounter, the officer discharged his firearm", the statement revealed.

A CBP statement said he was wounded and taken to a hospital in Mexico. "The officer was not injured".

Mexican border officials surrounded the truck and discovered the driver was dead, and arrested a passenger.

CBP revealed the Office of Professional Responsibility and Homeland Security Investigations are looking into the case.

On Wednesday night, the city council of Nogales-an Arizona border town with a population of 20,000 people-unanimously passed a resolution calling for the Trump administration to remove razor wire that covers in near entirety a border wall that passes through its downtown.

The resolution-which says such a wall "is only found in a war, prison or battle setting" and has no place in the city-says that if the government does not remove the wire, it will file a lawsuit to have it taken down.
